Apartment by Isla Canela Golf

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely little hotel. The staff were very friendly, the food was included and good, and there are two nice golf courses to play. The only minor downsides were the noise coming through the hallway and the mosquitoes, so pack some spray for outdoors.

I didn’t stay there. The golf course was okay, though buggies are limited, so you need to book one.

The golf was enjoyable at both courses, with a good mix of challenging and interesting holes. The hotel is at the old course, while the links course is about a 15-minute drive away. Transport there is arranged by the hotel from mid-September; before then, you need to make your own plans. The place is quite isolated, so if you’re not on half board, finding dinner nearby can be difficult. You’ll need a car or taxi to reach somewhere to eat, roughly 15 minutes away. The hotel food was very good, with varied salads, fish and meat. The portions were small, but three courses were enough. Breakfast had a great range, from continental options to a full English. The pool area was nice, although the water was cold and not heated. We’d only just arrived when I first wrote this, but after several days, that’s how it seemed.

The breakfast had an excellent selection, though the evening meal menu didn’t vary much, which was my one disappointment. We really enjoyed playing both golf courses; each had some tricky holes and good greens. The hotel itself was lovely, spotless, and had spacious rooms. All the staff were pleasant and very helpful. I’d definitely return.
