The entertainment team were enthusiastic and clearly doing their best, and the staff in general were kind and helpful. Speaking some Spanish made communication much easier. The inclusive wines were a little better than at many other all-inclusive resorts, and the spirits were high quality. Food was good, but the choices were extremely limited and repetitive. Ordering drinks at the table was frustratingly slow. Sometimes we had finished our starters before anyone came to take the order, and getting another glass of wine was a real challenge. We went to the hotel's wine tasting hoping to try some finer wines, but they only poured the basic varieties already included in the all-inclusive package. That was disappointing. The spa also required advance booking and had limited time slots, which was inconvenient. The common areas were kept somewhat clean, and the cleaning staff worked hard there, but the rooms didn't get the same basic care. The floors were particularly unpleasant, with too much dust, dirt, and hair, especially in the bathroom. Around the pool it felt like being packed into a sardine can, with too many loungers squeezed into too little space and lots of annoying flies. The beach towels they provided were much too small. Our stay at Vila Galé Isla Canela was pretty average, and we'd probably choose somewhere else next time. If you don't expect too much, the hotel is basically fine. In our view, it could work for a long weekend, but under the circumstances it wasn't a good fit for a longer holiday or for our tastes.

The outside looked great, but inside it felt like a three-star place, with plain, simple rooms and common areas that weren't inviting. Getting into the spa was complicated, and the person running it was unfriendly. The pool got very busy, and meals during peak hours were a stressful, chaotic experience. Outside those times, things were quiet.

It's quite peaceful away from the habitat, and the beach nearby is clean. The pools are great, and the service was friendly. Getting transport to the site isn't easy. There are a couple of hotel restaurants about a mile away. Half-board guests get a great breakfast and buffet dinner.

We went in September, after the kids were back at school. The rooms were spacious, newly refurbished, and had all the amenities we needed. The pool was a good temperature, probably around 28 degrees, and there was plenty of good-quality food. The pizza restaurant was great, with pasta, bruschetta, pizza, and excellent wine. Special thanks to Joao Ferriasao for the great personal service. Much appreciated.

We booked after Vila Gale promoted the hotel with a special offer, since it was their first one in Spain. The Italian restaurant in the hotel was very good, but this just wasn't our kind of place as a mature couple. It was much too big and noisy. The beach nearby is magnificent, though there aren't any facilities on it. There also aren't restaurants within an easy walk, apart from in the port area, and I wasn't impressed by those. I'm sure it's a great family hotel, but it wasn't for us. Children were allowed to bang on a grand piano in the foyer, which is also a place to sit and relax. The noise made relaxing there impossible.
