We had a baby with us, but there were no cribs or high chairs, which made the stay harder than it needed to be. Rest was difficult too: the rooms were small and uncomfortable, and sound carried from the halls and neighboring rooms. Every step on the wooden floors creaked loudly. From the start, the staff came across as unpleasant and unwelcoming, and we never felt comfortable or valued. At breakfast we could hear the owner shouting at staff not to serve us “certain items.” It made an already tense atmosphere feel even worse. We left deeply disappointed with both the service and facilities, and wouldn't recommend Hotel Peruskenea.

The reception staff were good enough, though we barely interacted with them and didn't go to breakfast, so I can't say much about the service. Our room and bed were comfortable and had what we needed, including bathrobes. The old building also has modern touches: air conditioning, Wi-Fi, electric car chargers and solar panels. Outside, there’s a big garden with tables and patios for sitting with a drink, plus pigs and cows and the sound of birds and nature all around. It feels peaceful and nostalgic, like being at your grandmother’s house in summer. The rooms do let in outside noise, but we knew that and it didn't bother us much. A lovely spot for enjoying country life.

We only stayed one night, which was a shame. The forest road was easy to drive, and there was private parking. At first the hospitality might seem a little unusual or not very welcoming, but that impression changed. Santi was happy to show us the range of food and drinks and tell us about the house. We really enjoyed the food, especially the local cider with cheese. Our large room had a genuinely ancient chimney, which made the evening with my husband feel romantic. There was a jacuzzi in the room too, and it looked lovely, though we didn't get to try it. I almost hesitated to share this review because I selfishly thought the place might get too popular.

We left three hours after arriving and went to nearby Pamplona el Toro, where the staff were delightful and the aircon worked. At hotel peruskenea, the owner was confrontational from the start. We arrived at 5 pm during a heatwave to a stifling room, and the aircon, which was why we'd booked, wasn't working. When we asked him to fix it, he mostly grunted, so we couldn't tell what he meant. An hour later he said it was sorted, but it wasn't. He then admitted it was broken and that the technician he'd called wasn't available. I said it was impossible to sleep in the room and that he shouldn't advertise services he didn't have. He got aggressive, took out a laser thermometer and pointed it at random things outside while insisting it wasn't that hot. When I asked him to come see the room himself, he got more irritated, came right up in my face and insulted me in Spanish. At 8 pm he told us we could leave if we didn't like it. I wouldn't send anyone to hotel peruskenea. Unless you want to be treated like trash, avoid the place and its angry owner.
