Hostal Venta del Sol

Lunch at Venta del Sol restaurant was our first visit, and Betty looked after us really well. The Menu del Día was 15€ for three courses, with bread and a drink included. I started with Salmorejo, then had fried Merluza with salad, and finished with Carrot Cake. All delicious.

The room was small but just right, and everything was clean. There was even a bottle of water in the fridge, and the air conditioner was easy to figure out once I switched it on. At reception, a cute little dog was there first, then the real receptionist appeared. She was lovely and apologized for her English, though it was far better than my Spanish. She explained the room, handed over the key, and gave me another for a lock up garage where we could keep the motorcycle. We had breakfast in the bar downstairs the next morning. A lovely, very affordable place to stay.

I only went in because it was pouring and everywhere else was shut on a Sunday. I asked for orange juice and got coffee instead. The ham, cheese and tomato on toast I ordered was cold, soggy and not grilled. It was vile. Then a fat beggar grabbed my arm and nearly spilled my coffee. She wouldn't let go until I yelled at her in English to F off, and the staff did nothing. I won't set foot in this dive again.

The hostel is modest, clean and friendly, and the location is good. Great value overall. The restaurant serves simple food that tastes delicious.
