Hotel Pontes De Gatin

The daily menu is €13, and the bread, dessert, and house wine were all excellent. We’d read online that it was a bit of a trek to get here, but worth the effort, so we went out of our way to find it. Sure enough, it’s in a very peaceful spot. We ate in the restaurant and found the staff and service very attentive. The food was fabulous, homemade, fresh, made with local meats, and served in generous portions. Try the beef and hake too. Definitely worth another visit and a recommendation.

It’s quite a way from everything, and the road there isn’t great, though you’re right in the middle of the forest. The rooms are very spacious and clean. For me, it’s a little pricey, especially breakfast. If all you need is a place to sleep, it’s more than enough.

The bed was the letdown for me. The mattress is very soft and sags, and its plastic mattress cover doesn’t breathe, so I got really sweaty even though it was cold. If they changed that, I’d give the place a perfect 10. The owner is lovely, the kind of person who asks, “Are you still hungry? Can I fry you an egg?” Her home cooking is delicious and very reasonably priced, and the dense, tasty bread at breakfast is just like you get in the countryside. The hotel has loads of charm, with windows looking out over the meadow, river, or mountains, plus an old bridge and a traditional granary. The setting and the drive are wonderful, especially taking the mountain road instead of the main one. The route through the woods is well worth it, though you’re at quite a high altitude and the road is narrow, even if the surface is good.

The owner is so friendly and helpful, and everyone made us feel welcome. The food she makes is excellent, and it feels like pure nature out here. It’s a beautiful area with kind people, and the hotel is very clean with cozy rooms. We’ll be back soon. Thanks for all the care, wonderful people. The Alicante family.
