Hostal Sa Rascassa

For what we paid, the service was far below par. There was no staff when I arrived, no message beforehand that the restaurant was closed, and no information or guidance, just a room. The way in was so dark I nearly fell down the stairs. I heard nothing from the host until I cancelled the second night.

The service was excellent, and the food was very good, though fairly expensive. It cost about the same as other restaurants nearby. Six of us were here on a Pura Aventura walking holiday, and their hotel choices have never let us down. The hotel itself is lovely and well located. Our rooms felt a little small and could get noisy. There were lots of mosquitoes around, but that’s hardly the hotel’s fault.

The breakfast buffet was a real highlight, with fresh-squeezed orange juice and farm-fresh eggs cooked to order on most days. It’s included in the price, which felt like excellent value. The rooms aren’t luxurious, but they’re clean and comfortable, and the service was very good. I’d highly recommend it. The picture shows the large outdoor space shared by five rooms.

The setting is lovely and the staff were very friendly. My main issue was the secreto, which cost 26 euros and was a real letdown: three tiny pieces of meat, undercooked, tasteless and unseasoned, over what looked like sweet potato puree with apple compote. It was all more or less the same color. I raised the problem, and the staff seemed genuinely interested in the feedback, which I appreciated. I barely touched the plate and didn’t finish it, but they didn’t offer another dish, which was fine. What didn’t sit right was being charged for it. I can understand that if I’d eaten it, but I hardly did, and it felt cheap and unprofessional. Even the couple beside us, who had also complained about a dish, asked if mine had been taken off the bill. They were shocked when I said I’d paid, since they’d heard me complain. That kind of experience makes people not want to return. You can do much better.
