El Vagón Bar-Albergue Béjar

We came for dinner and it was simple but good. It’s great to have a place in Bejar where people looking to enjoy nature can stay.

We ducked in for a drink yesterday when the rain started pouring. It seemed like we were charged more than the locals, so I’d suggest checking the price before you order.

Right beside the Vía Verde (Greenway), this is a charming bar and a lovely place to pause and enjoy the surroundings. The atmosphere feels distinctive and relaxed, just right after walking or cycling. The owner welcomes you with a smile. Order a glass of wine and he’ll happily explain the winemaking process and share lots of interesting details about the area. You can tell he cares about what he does. Good company, wine, and conversation make it feel authentic. Highly recommended if that’s what you’re after.

We spent a few days in the area with our dog, and the friendly staff made us feel welcome. They let us sit inside with him and treated him like one of their own. The tapas had plenty of variety and were carefully prepared, with very good products at affordable prices. From the spacious terrace, we could watch the sunset and enjoy the views of the ancient wall. It’s a good base for exploring the greenway and the area around Béjar after a hearty breakfast. We’ll definitely return.
