The suite was enormous, with lovely views, and the staff were cheerful and helpful. Food and service were really good, and the inclusive packages made the place incredibly affordable. The course was in good condition and suited golfers at different levels, though it definitely makes you focus on hitting straight. It’s a long coach trip from Malaga airport, about 2 1/2 hours, and the resort is out in the sticks, but the countryside is stunning, with hills and valleys all around. A gem for our golf society’s annual away event, highly recommended.

The food was the biggest problem. We went half-board because the resort is in a remote village without nearby alternatives, but the buffet was unacceptable: poor quality, unappetizing dishes, and “fresh” fish left out for cooking that had a brownish color. We ended up making ourselves a salad just to have something to eat. The location and surrounding landscape are pleasant, and the property feels welcoming, but that’s about where the good points stop. Our room was spacious, clean, tidy and had a nice view, though its style was clearly dated. Apart from the kind girl at reception, the staff seemed careless and incompetent, with an indifferent attitude toward guests. FairPlay Resort & SPA may once have met five-star standards, but today it doesn’t. There’s potential here, but the service and dining fall well short. Definitely not worth the claimed five stars.

Getting to the restaurant and bar meant a 10 minute walk through the complex. My room was huge and looked out over the pool, and the facilities were really good.

Great bargains and a big buffet selection. The staff were efficient and helpful, and both the golf course and spa were good. A great spot for a break, though you should plan on staying at the hotel.
