Hotel Covadonga

We were only there for one night. The best parts were being close to the city center and having decent mattresses; the rest was passable for a hostel. Reception staff were fine, but the noise was impossible to forget. We’d asked for a quiet room, yet the walls seemed paper thin and we could hear everything our neighbors did. It didn't live up to the five star ratings in some other reviews.

I can't comment on the rooms since I didn't use them. We stopped at this café in Benavente because it was open and didn't require going far into town. The coffee was good, but the place felt sad, and the bathroom was dreadful: it smelled of urine, the toilet paper was single ply, the toilet tank was loose, and even the paper used to wrap new shoes is better quality. Count Dracula's bathroom would look nicer. We wanted our usual tomato and tuna toast, but the woman working alone said she couldn't make it with tuna because she'd have to go to the kitchen. The choices were rustic bread with oil and canned tomato, or sliced bread with butter and jam. I was fine with the toast choice, since I don't usually complain about food. Still, €8 for two milky coffees and two slices of toast with oil and canned tomato seemed excessive.

The staff were friendly and the price was great for what you get. The city center is only a few minutes away on foot.

For €60, we expected more. The room was very basic and freezing, and the bathroom fan made a lot of noise. The towels were old and frayed. We had no issue with the service.
