Hotel Casa Marcial

We stayed here in August 2022 as an LGBTQ couple, and everything about the place was excellent!

Despite the poor reviews we'd seen of the restaurant, we enjoyed our meal there. The rest of the experience was just okay for one or two nights at most. The hotel has been extensively renovated and is relatively new, but it feels like style over substance. We chose a suite, and the rooms felt cold and characterless. The bathroom was a prefabricated box in the main space, and the setup felt very functional, like an Ibis hotel in France. Breakfast was average, and the weekend receptionist lacked customer service skills.

We had to leave very early, and the receptionist was kind enough to prepare breakfast for us outside the usual hours. The lady at reception was very kind in general, too. This hidden gem in Besalú is as charming as the town, and extremely clean and well stocked, with extras of everything. They even gave us fluffy flip-flops.

Breakfast was typical Catalan fare: different cold meats and cheeses, hard-boiled eggs, tortilla, cereals and yogurt. The location is literally steps from everything, and check-in and checkout were easy. The staff were so friendly and kind. One of them showed us around after bringing us to our room, which felt like 5 star treatment. The room was fully equipped with an electric kettle, coffee and tea packets, bottled water, toothbrushes and toothpaste, personal tissues, and other little luxuries that most hotels don't usually provide. They made everything extra special.
