Hotel Estadio

The hotel is near Termibus of Bilbao, and the room was ordinary, like any other hotel. I didn't see a lift and had to carry my luggage up all the stairs, which was a bad experience after a long journey. They say it's two-star, but I'd take off another star. At 85€ a night, the facilities aren't worth the price. I arrived at midnight with no other choice but to stay. I rang the bell, and a receptionist opened the door with an unfriendly air. Maybe she was sleeping, as she seemed uninterested in helping me, though I have no idea whether she was the owner or an employee. She didn't have the usual welcoming charm. I was unhappy but just wanted to get to bed quickly. For 85€, the room was just somewhere to sleep, with no food included. The temperature was fine. There was no AC, and they would turn it on only on request, for an extra charge. Don't count on wifi or a convenient plug to charge your phone. The only outlet was behind the curtains by the window, far from the bed, which was disappointing. I didn't enjoy the stay and wouldn't recommend it for a night.

The room was nice, but I couldn't sleep, even with earplugs. It was so hot that opening the windows was the only way to cool it at all. The hotel is on a busy street, and traffic and people dragging heavy things along the sidewalk were really loud. I went to reception and asked for the air-conditioner remote. The woman refused, saying it was too noisy and telling me to open the windows. I returned to get my phone to translate what I was trying to explain. Even after I said the windows were open and the street noise was still too much with earplugs in, she wouldn't help. If heat bothers you or you're a light sleeper, pass on this hotel. They didn't seem to care whether I was comfortable.

It was better than I expected given the rather poor online ratings. The hotel is central, right next to Termibus, clean, and quiet inside, and it had the best price in the area. The reception women could be friendlier, though after we talked in Spanish for a while they warmed up a little.

For €60 a night, with no breakfast, this was poor value, and I ended up moving to another hotel. The room smelled like the kitchen, and street noise came through even with the window shut. The place felt dated, and the bath might as well have been removed.
