Quartier Bilbao Hostel

The hostel was nicely decorated, clean, and well equipped, with friendly and helpful staff. It's well located on the 2nd of the las siete calles. There's also a coin operated washer and dryer.

The receptionists were really friendly and helpful. After check-out, I could leave my luggage in the storage room for free, though I made sure to keep my important things with me. I also stayed in the lobby for a couple of hours to charge my gadgets before heading out. The kitchen and breakfast were good, and every bed had an EU power outlet and a light. I stayed in an 8-female room. The bunks were a bit low, so taller people might bump their heads, especially on a lower bunk. Dust was noticeable on the floor, bunk sides, and around the toilets. There were no curtains, which seemed understandable in a single gender room. The sheets had some yellow marks and looked kind of gross, but they provided a clean extra sheet, pillowcase, and comforter in the assigned locker. There was one toilet room per floor, outside the bedrooms, with two toilets and two showers. The spaces were small, and there was no bidet. They did provide plenty of tissues, but I still think washing with water is more hygienic. The lobby had lots of cushioned chairs and looked picturesque from afar, but up close the covers seemed like they hadn't been washed in a long time. Gross. I was also watching out for bugs, though thankfully I didn't see any. Good for a day or two, but it really needs extra attention to cleanliness and a toilet bidet.

The best thing was the central old town location, though it was a little noisy. The rooms were a good size but hot, the showers and bathrooms were very small, with just two stalls per floor. Breakfast was nice but basic. None of that made up for the bed bugs. I stayed for two nights, May 7-9th, and was badly bitten after the first night. I tried to find the bugs, but things got much worse after the second night. The bites were all over my arms, ankles, and feet, and I've been very itchy with terrible allergic reactions since staying at this hostel. Sorry this review took a while to post. They kept rejecting my photos, and I know it's bad!

The location is handy, right in the middle of Bilbao, and breakfast is included. The reception staff seemed to be making an effort to be friendly. But the room was freezing: the heater didn’t work, and the thin blanket wasn’t enough for December. There were no bed curtains for privacy, and dust was everywhere. I also woke up with a couple of red marks on my arms, which could have been bed bug bites. The water was cold yesterday and again this morning, so I checked out without showering. Really frustrating. €77 for 4 nights is cheap, but that doesn’t excuse the poor cleaning, possible bed bugs, broken heat, and lack of basic comfort. They need to clean more carefully and provide warmer bedding.
