Aldea Rural Pazos De Arenteiro

We only spent one night here while heading to Santiago, but the accommodation suited us perfectly. It felt clean and fresh, and the setting was wonderfully peaceful, with a river below and birds singing constantly. Ramiro was a terrific host. The food was wholesome and delicious too: we had tortilla, rice, and meat, all of it really tasty. I hope we can come back someday.

The room was spacious and spotlessly clean, and the host was very helpful. He speaks at least Spanish, English, and Italian. I would have appreciated a complimentary bottle of water, though the tap water was safe to drink. One big warning about getting there: Google Maps sends you down an extremely narrow street and gives no warning. Unless your car is very small, you’re likely to scrape it or even get stuck. Turning back gets harder the farther you go. There’s an easier alternative road, but Google Maps doesn’t know about it or suggest it. The reception is in a separate building, 50 m from rooms 6, 7, 8, and 9. The host should put up three signs to guide guests to the Hotel Rural.

Ramiro gave us a lovely welcome, and our kids had a great time with the animals and out in the countryside. It was a perfect stay for a family, with gorgeous scenery, beautiful forests, and such attentive service. 😊

Ramiro and his family were incredibly welcoming, and the food Ramiro made was far beyond what I expected. The rooms at Pazo de Arenteiro have been restored with real care and taste, in a tiny village that feels lost in time. It’s all unforgettable once you arrive and take in where you’ve ended up. Getting there is part of the adventure: the rural hotel is remote and hard to find, and the impossibly narrow medieval cobbled street can scrape your car mirrors against the stone walls. That’s only a small part of the magic, though. If you get the chance to stay, stay as long as you can. I’m already looking forward to another visit.
