Breakfast was excellent, and we slept well in a very quiet place.

The owner is like a walking encyclopedia, and shared routes and information about the surrounding area with real kindness and enthusiasm. It's a quiet place with a special charm, and somehow stays cool even in the sweltering summer, so you can sleep with just a blanket. Highly recommended if you're fed up with crowded beaches.

We felt abandoned for almost our entire stay. There was no cell service to call anyone, and we never saw the owner or the cleaning staff again, even though we had paid separately for cleaning. No one replenished towels or toilet paper. Dinner, which was supposed to be included and paid for, simply wasn't served on either of the two days. We had to walk half an hour to find food. We expected someone from the guesthouse to be around at breakfast or dinner, but there was nobody. On our last day we were completely alone, with no security except a door and two dogs chained outside. The grounds weren't lit, so once we left the house we were in total darkness. We chose this rural house with a Wonderbox gift card because we wanted to see the Burgos area, and the catalog promised a 4-star rural house with lodging, buffet breakfast, and dinner. The card covered one night, so we paid €68 for the second night and another €15 per day to bring our dog. We wanted to go for Valentine's Day weekend. On the first call, the man sounded concerned about our satisfaction, but said those dates were very difficult because the gift-card stays were already booked. He said he'd try and call to confirm. We gave him the gift card code and all our booking details, then had to call several times ourselves. He never called back as promised. We also never got the booking confirmation, which he said didn't matter. To our surprise, the confirmation was supposed to say... The price turned out to be higher than what he'd told us on the phone, so we had to pay more. When we arrived, nobody was there to let us in, and we waited for someone to show up. He took us to the dining room to hand over the keys, made us pay, then left us on our own. By the way, even one night cost more than the safe. He pointed out where the houses were on the hillside, but didn't show us which little house was ours. We'd asked for one with a fireplace and had to work out how to light it ourselves. He hadn't told us where the firewood was or anything. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired. There was no food or staff in the dining room, despite dinner being included. Breakfast was scant and poor, mostly packaged pastries. On the first morning we were lucky to have bread to toast, and there were oranges so we could make our own juice. There were unpleasant details, like the same empty juice bottle left out both days. The coffee, I think... The food tasted stale, and everything else was just as we'd found it on day one. They didn't tidy or clean, and didn't even put breakfast out the next day. There were only two couples there on our first day, a Saturday, and the place was nearly empty, although they'd made booking difficult by saying it was full. They put a heater in the dining room on the first day, but on the second day, a Monday when we were alone, they didn't bother turning it on. We had breakfast in a freezing room with hardly anything to eat. Since there weren't other guests, why bother?

I wouldn't go back or recommend the place. They reassigned our room to another couple before we arrived, without asking us, because they thought the access wasn't suitable for our motorbike. The room they gave us was worse. It was barely cleaned and hadn't even been prepared, and there was no staff around to ask for something as basic as a roll of toilet paper. The toilet cistern broke too, luckily on the morning we were leaving. :(

A peaceful spot surrounded by nature, and a great choice for a getaway. Pets are welcome too. The owner was attentive throughout and did a few thoughtful things for us, which we appreciated.
