NH Collection Cáceres Palacio de Oquendo Hotel

We had a nice 2 night stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, including Jose at the front desk. Our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed, a good shower, and a Nespresso machine and kettle. The breakfast buffet was good too. It's right in the center, at the edge of the old city walls. An outdoor terrace or garden area would've been nice.

For a 4-star hotel, I expected better service. At breakfast I saw a cockroach in the toaster, and another guest killed it right in front of me. I didn't say anything then because I'd had good experiences with NH before. Later I realized I'd left my Apple Watch behind. The staff didn't tell me they had it until I tracked its location, and then they had to admit they did. When I asked for help getting it back, they weren't very willing to assist and told me to find a delivery company myself. Since I'm not from Spain, I asked for suggestions. They gave me two companies so I could arrange and pay for the pickup and delivery myself. I'm happy to pay for the service, but disappointed a hotel of this standard wouldn't help make the arrangements. There was also no water available at reception, despite a water station being there. An older staff member wasn't helpful and sent me to the restaurant to buy a bottle, which I couldn't do because my dog was with me. Thankfully, a younger staff member who seemed to be training kindly went to get water for me.

The hotel building is lovely, and it sits right in the heart of the city, within easy walking distance of all the highlights. We stayed three of us, including a seven year old, in a triple room, and it was very spacious.

The staff were all lovely and helpful, and traveling with our cat for the first time turned out to be a really nice experience thanks to them. We also found it easy to set the room temperature, even with 42 degrees outside. The location is excellent for enjoying the old town atmosphere. We had a very pleasant stay and will definitely visit again!
