Hotel Calina

Hotel Calina has such a peaceful Mediterranean feel, with a lovely pool and a terrace overlooking the sea. The rooms are cozy, clean, and thoughtfully laid out with what you need for a relaxing visit. Staff were friendly and helpful, and it's only a short walk to Dalí’s house. A lovely place to take in the calm and beauty of this special town. I'd happily stay again.

This was our third stay, which probably tells you what you need to know. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful even when things are busy. The pool is clean, safe, and big enough for a decent swim, and the beach is just a stone's throw away. I don't eat breakfast, so can't comment on that. We had a studio with a little kitchenette, handy for simple cooking. The induction hob baffled my wife, but I was impressed. There's also a small sitting-out area, too hot in the morning sun but nice once the sun had moved over the yardarm. The rooms are comfortable, with quiet air conditioning, excellent beds, and a good-sized wet room with a splendid shower. One thing to know is there's no transport to Cadaques apart from walking or having your own car. That was hard for my 80-year-old relative with two hip replacements, bad knees, and heart trouble. He made it over the hill and back once, but I drove after that to save time and worry about getting back after excellent meals. Access is technically one way, since the beachfront is theoretically one way and there's no entry from the East. At night, plumbing sounds from showers and flushed toilets cascading through the pipes were annoying, though luckily most people seemed to be in bed by midnight.

The team made a real difference for us. Everyone was welcoming, worked well together, and went out of their way to help guests and sort out activities beyond the hotel. The facilities are nice too, and we enjoyed relaxing by the pool. The studios have a kitchen and fridge. Portlligat is a good base if you don't mind a 15-minute walk into Cadaqués center. It's hard to park in town, and the hotel is right by the beach in a great fishing town. Casa Dalí is a 5-minute walk away, but book ahead because it's usually sold out. The location is quiet, with the center about 15 minutes on foot. Breakfast had a complete buffet, though I missed fresh vegetables like tomatoes or cucumbers.

A good family hotel, right by the beach, with a nice pool and outdoor seating areas. The staff were super friendly, and breakfast was tasty with a reasonable selection. Rooms are spacious but a bit dark because they're built into the hillside, which keeps them cool all summer. They could use more umbrellas around the pool, and there's no washing machine or laundry service.
