The setting is lovely, with lots of greenery and ducks and chickens around. I found the food pretty average, though, and the service was poor. The woman helping us wasn't very helpful and never smiled.

The staff were lovely and patient while trying to communicate with our limited Spanish. We had a great salad and the draft beer was good too. The adobo pork came as chunks rather than ribs, and while tasty, there wasn't much meat on them. They came with fries, though I should have asked for rice or vegetables instead.

After a long day on our bikes, having the fantastic pool to ourselves was just what we needed. We stayed here and the chickens at the neighboring farm made sure we weren't sleeping late. It also seems like a lovely spot for a wedding or another event.

Cortijo Los monteros was lively and busy when I stopped there for a second breakfast on January 3, 2024, while walking the Camino del Estrecho from Benalup-Casas Viejas to Medina Sidonia. The tostada con tomate-aceite was the best I had on the trip, and the café con leche was great too.

The terrace is such a charming place for dinner this time of year, all set up for a special evening. The cottages and suites sit among the woods, with homegrown meat and vegetables and beautiful pheasants and other birds wandering around. It feels close to nature, and the bucolic pool would be perfect for a mojito in the afternoon.
