Kadrit Hotel

We had to wait around an hour to check in, while four other people were checked in ahead of us. We’d booked through Booking.com, but on arrival they said our reservation wasn’t in their system. Then they told us they had no rooms left that matched our booking, so our options were a refund or paying extra for a different room. We’ve never had such a horrible experience at any other hotel.

The room service was included as standard, with everyday Spanish prices and no extra charge. Food and drinks came through a serving hatch into a cupboard in the room, so there was no need to see anyone or open the door. We could eat at the table in our room, or head to the small, intimate cafeteria at the end of the upstairs corridor for snacks, meals, and drinks. Everything there was cooked to order and nicely presented, and we paid for our food and drinks when checking out the next morning. The staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay. There are some fabulous places to visit nearby too. Kadrit Hotel is just outside Zaragoza, and we stopped there halfway between Bilbao and Valencia. The setup is unusual but works really well: you check in from your car, like at a McDonald’s drive-through, and get a keycard for a private garage you can drive straight into. That keeps your car contents safe, and stairs from the garage lead up to your room. The rooms are spacious and modern, with big comfortable beds, air conditioning, working free WiFi, widescreen TVs, and large walk-in showers. Depending on the room, there’s also a bath or jacuzzi, and some suites have their own attached private swimming pool. The hotel focuses on themed rooms for romantic stays, whether you’re a couple, lovers, or people who met online. As several reviews mention, the decor and facilities in many rooms suit a romantic night or two, or a sex date with someone you met online. Still, the place isn’t seedy or hidden away. The hotel’s own website in Spanish is open about the concept, and it’s a large, modern, high-tech place that’s great value and super clean. It shouldn’t be mistaken for a brothel or sex club. If those descriptions in the reviews offend you, this probably isn’t the place for you, and I’d suggest looking for somewhere else. For a stop on a road trip across Spain, though, it worked very well for us.

Room service has a 24 hour menu at affordable prices, and checking in from inside the car was quick and simple. I loved having a private garage under the room. I’ve saved it as one of my favorite hotels for when I’m passing through the area again.

It’s a lovely, very secure hotel, with food delivered to the rooms and 24 hour service. Each room has its own private garage underneath, which is handy. I was surprised to find an erotic toy menu alongside the food menu, and I’m not sure about the glass around the toilet, which is frosted in places. Some rooms have large round baths, though, and it seems ideal for a lovers’ weekend.
