Hotel Fornos

The location is the strongest point: it’s close to Calatayud Train Station for regional trips to Madrid or Barcelona, and near banks, fast food, grocery stores, and other businesses. The hotel was clean, with up-to-date decor, and the staff were friendly. The afternoon receptionist helped me check in, and the morning receptionist sorted out the shower problem. Still, I’d rate my stay two stars. My bed had fresh linens and was fine, but I slept poorly because the room was cold. I couldn’t tell whether there was a heater. There was a gap of about half an inch under the door, letting in cold air and making hallway conversations and footsteps easy to hear. Guests were loud until after 11 p.m., so it was hard to rest. The bedside phone didn’t work properly when I tried to call reception. Around 7 a.m., I tried to shower, but the water was extremely hot, hot enough to make coffee. Turning the faucet toward cold didn’t help. Since the phone wasn’t working, I went downstairs to ask the receptionist to fix it. The room came with towels and body wash, but no shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, or slippers. I paid €44.10 for one night, breakfast included, which felt like too much for an uncomfortable stay. Breakfast wasn’t very appealing: I had coffee with milk, a grilled croissant, and a small amount of orange juice. I’ve paid the same at other hotels and gotten a better-quality breakfast.

The beds were really comfortable, and the hotel is in a handy spot in Calatayud. Parking was tough to find, though, with the blue zone. The rooms feel old and could use renovation, and the thin walls mean you can hear other guests. For the price, it’s not a bad deal.

The portions are generous, and the food at this restaurant tastes good.

I hadn’t visited in a long while, but from what I saw, it seemed like a pretty nice hotel.
