The dinner was excellent, with great service, and I liked the building's castle-like feel and architecture. It began as a thermal spring business down the road in 1881, and now bottles an impressive range of water in glass. In the US, plastic bottled water is an unfortunate fad. Filtered tap water there is safer than bottled water and doesn't cause plastic pollution. The rooms had excellent heat, though the rest of the building felt cold and drafty. The walls were completely bare of art. I also noticed a nice Christian chapel for people with secular beliefs. I'd go in summer for the outdoor amenities and golf course. I was there in late December, when the hotel wasn't very busy. I'm from Northern Virginia in the US and travel around Europe. Check-in was slow, and staff didn't pay much attention to my Spanish-speaking wife. Maybe it's cultural, but as an American on my own, it could have been much worse. They have an eight-position sauna setup, from dry and steam to cold pours and several pools. The woman at check-in for that was inattentive too, like the first one. She gave no guidance on the order of the experiences or the sauna safety timers. Those were hourglass-style timers on the wall that you turned around, good for one couple. You'd have to use the place regularly to know how they worked.

We came with friends for the spa, but the hot sauna wasn't working, and the place was smaller than we'd expected. There also weren't any showers in the locker room.

The service around the hotel was very good, and I really enjoyed the massages during my one-night stay. What brought my rating down was the condition of the place. The rooms, hallways, and dining areas all feel old and need renovation. It was also 20 degrees outside, but the heating was on in the rooms and it got so hot that sleeping was difficult.

The pool is spacious and heated, the area is quiet, and the room was good with a comfortable bed. The dining and spa teams were fantastic. The shower area needs a proper cleaning, though, and some of the furniture could probably do with an update. We also had several mix-ups with other staff or departments because of what we'd been told before arrival and during the stay. The front desk really needs to know the conditions of the services they're offering guests.

The baths are really good, and the hotel and services were generally good as well. It's an impressive old-style spa hotel, though some of the facilities need updating.
