Bungalows Castillo Beach

The apartments are dated, but clean, and the staff clearly work hard. There are several pools, with town and beach both a short walk away. We stayed at Castillo beach apartments from 20-27th Feb, in bungalow no 60, and are already looking at coming back for two weeks. Ana at reception was really friendly and pointed us in the right direction. Our bungalow suited us perfectly: clean and tidy, with everything we needed, including an oven, which was a nice surprise for self-catering. It was close to the pool but still private, and we could see the sea from our spot.

At about 4 a.m., someone opened our window from outside and tried to use a broom to pull a wallet on the table closer to it. My wife woke up, grabbed the broom, and the person ran off. It was terrifying and left us feeling the hotel was unsafe. We spent a week here, and it was the worst week imaginable. The room was dirty and smelled awful, everything was broken, and the bed was so damaged we had to sleep on mattresses on the floor. We asked repeatedly for it to be fixed, but nobody even tried. Rats ran around the grounds and there were ants all over the rooms. The food was so bad that both our families ate at restaurants outside every day. Staff were rude and no help, and housekeeping never cleaned our room during the stay. This was the most disgusting, unsafe and disappointing holiday I’ve ever had. I’d never return, and I’ll strongly warn friends and family away. Please don’t waste your money here.

On our fourth day, someone tried our bungalow door handle at 3 a.m. I’d read the reviews but ignored them, thinking it might be a lost, drunk holidaymaker. The next night, around the same time, it happened again while I was awake. I pushed drawers against the bedroom door and secured the handle, then booked another hotel, Elba Lucia, for our final night. That place and its staff were amazing. I’m gutted I didn’t listen to the reviews. Honestly, believe them. Our holiday was ruined. My husband and I booked this cheap 2 star place through love holidays for seven days from 9th of February. We arrived around 7.30pm after a smooth coach transfer. Reception was fine, gave us a little map, and our bungalow was Moon number 47, near the pool. Inside was clean enough, with a mop bucket but no mop, a sweeping brush and a few mixed pots, cups and pans. The bed was made, but the mattress had blood stains. We slept well the first night.

We waited four hours to check in and just wanted a shower and some rest. The bungalow smelled doggy when we walked in. The kitchen gear was dirty, the pan was worn out, and there were no cleaning products. In the bathroom, the shower curtain smelled horrible and was stained, and it didn’t keep water in, so the floor ended up soaked. Both bedroom mattresses had horrible stains. The curtain was hanging from just a few loops, there were hardly any sockets, and there was only one duvet for two beds. There was no hand soap or ashtray, and nobody told us where to take the rubbish. The sofa was hard and uncomfortable. A socket was blocked by the headboard, and moving it to charge our phones revealed mould stains on the wall. The mop and bucket were mouldy, and the dustpan and brush were sticky. The listing advertised WiFi for an extra charge, which we were willing to pay, but reception told us there was no WiFi available on site except at reception. Fake advertising! A crack in the wall let ants and flies in, and my partner woke with bugs in his bed. On the fourth night, the bedroom light bulb broke. Reception called it a technical fault happening everywhere and said it would be sorted, but we had no bedroom light for the rest of our seven-night stay.
