Hotel Bahía Calpe by Pierre & Vacances

I wouldn’t come back to this hotel, though Calpe itself is lovely and I’d visit again. The bedroom was okay, but the mattress was very hard. The room cleaning needs work too, as there were lots of long dark hairs that weren’t ours. There was a coffee machine but no pods, so we had to buy them at reception, and there was no milk. Only two teabags were provided and they weren’t replaced after we used them. Breakfast was crowded, with every table occupied by people or dishes. The staff were busy, but there weren’t enough of them to keep the dining room clear. The hotel felt bland, with beige decor and no personality. The outdoor pool was very cold and boxed in by three buildings, with only a small gap for sunlight. The photos made it seem as if it overlooked the beach, but it doesn’t. The rooftop pool was small, though well positioned. I wouldn’t call this a four-star hotel.

The rooftop bar has amazing views, and there are pools on the roof and second floor. There’s also a buffet restaurant, which costs £23 per person if you’re not on half or full board. At ground level, the bar opens in the evening, though it’s small and has limited seating. The hotel is right across from the beach. Rooms are nice, with private balconies that are pleasant to sit on at night. Bathrooms are large, with a small shower room and a bath that also has a shower attachment. All in all, it’s a good hotel and I’d recommend it.

We had a very pleasant stay and found it great value for money. The modern, clean rooms have balconies with lovely views, and the rooftop pool was a highlight. We also enjoyed a sunset drink at the “Calpe Diem” lounge bar. The hotel is right beside Playa del Arenal, with amazing views of the Mediterranean and the Peñón de Ifach.

For the price, it’s good. The location is great, and there’s plenty if you like a fried breakfast. The restaurant feels a bit basic and cafe-like, though. Cereal choices were limited to sugary ones and there wasn’t much fruit. The beds were too firm for me, and when I asked for a spare duvet to put over the mattress, they didn’t have one.
