La Casona de Baro

We had everything we needed in our fairly spacious room. Danny, our host, was kind and helpful, and it’s a lovely place to stay in the beautiful Picos de Europa.

Dany gave us good dinner recommendations in Potes, which is an easy drive away. We also had dinner at the campground across the main road, just a five-minute walk, and enjoyed the atmosphere. Fuente Dé is about a beautiful, easy 20-minute drive and makes for an awesome day. If you’re American, the Fuente Dé website isn’t very friendly to U.S. credit cards, so we had to drive there to buy tickets. Casona de Baró was much better than we expected, especially since the price seemed too good to be true. It’s an old, beautiful building outside and very well restored inside, clean, cozy, and luxurious. Dany was a great host, answered all our questions, and served an awesome breakfast. The rural setting, working fields, farm buildings, and spectacular mountain views all felt just right for a posada. The beds and pillows were a bit hard. That’s partly my own issue, and I didn’t mention it to the staff, though I wish I’d brought a travel pillow.

Getting there and parking a large car is tricky, to say the least. Still, I’d very much recommend this comfortable, pleasant hotel. The views across the Picos de Europa are spectacular, and the owner is warm and helpful. He saved us 75% on the cable car! The architecture is interesting, especially the breakfast room in an overhang that’s like a cave. And the breakfast is lovely too.

We had such a lovely stay, and only wish we’d stayed longer. The location and hospitality were amazing. Highly recommend!
