Arcea Hotel Mirador de Cabrales

We were told a bus would come every hour into town, but none showed up. They also said getting a taxi back would be easy. There wasn’t one, so we had to walk 12k home in the rain. After one night we went elsewhere and won’t return. The rooms were very basic, with people yelling in the corridor at 06:00 and slamming doors. Breakfast was awful, stale bread, and the waiter was rude. The staff were terrible and shouldn’t be in hospitality.

We were on a group trek of The Picos and couldn’t switch hotels, so reading the recent review about fleas before we arrived made us nervous. We’re glad we stayed: the beds, like the rest of the hotel, were spotless. The staff went out of their way to help, even with a last-minute anniversary request that couldn’t have been straightforward to arrange. The food was very good too.

The location is great and the staff were friendly, but the room was in a disgraceful state. Some lights didn’t work, the bathroom door had no handle, and there were cobwebs all over the light fixtures. The bathtub was stained, the shower sprayed everywhere, and the bed legs kept breaking loose and needed pushing back into place. The place badly needs a major refurb. The lobby decor is just odd, with stained, mismatched sofas that look like they came from a 1970’s grandma home.

Such a great place. Everyone was friendly and happy to share tips about the area!
