Transcantabrico - Santiago de Compostela

We had a really cosy winter stay, and the welcome was friendly. Our room was clean and had a balcony overlooking the hotel garden and pool, with the town bridge in view. Breakfast was great, even for us as vegetarians. The hotel looks like it's been restored recently and has a lot of charm. Room views vary, so check what you're booking. Some of the cheaper rooms don't have much of a view; others look onto the plaza but have no balcony and might be noisy. We didn't stay in one of those. There's no hotel parking, but you can drop your bags outside and free public parking is nearby. Once you're in town, you don't need a car, and it's a lovely place to visit. We've booked a few more nights for this summer.

The food was good and the service excellent. The hotel has a slightly quirky feel, with a bit of faded grandeur, and lovely grounds beside the river. Its front entrance is right in the town centre. Recommended.

The river, bridge, flowers and mountain backdrop make for spectacular scenery, and the summers are very nice. The town is right outside the hotel lobby, with shops, cafes and other restaurants close by. The hotel has a lovely restaurant attached, with beautiful decor and style, and it could work well for parties, weddings or other events. Excursions are available too. I'd love to come back when I get the chance to enjoy the pool and the other luxuries.

We got very good value for money. Our room was large, with a balcony and a new bathroom, and looked over the river and the new bridge, Pont Nou, which was built several 100 years ago! Parking is on the street.
