The area feels untouched and beautiful. You can hike through nature or wander the car-free maze of nearby villages. There’s a slower rhythm and a sense of romance from another time, and staying here makes it easy to unwind. Wouter and Rasja are wonderful hosts. They’re friendly, full of tips, and so helpful that you feel on holiday right away. The place is beautifully designed, with care put into every detail. The photos don’t quite capture it, every corner is photogenic. It’s a typical rural stay, so you need to enjoy country life a bit, but the house and facilities are luxurious with a classic Spanish feel. As a B&B, Wouter and Rasja serve delicious food inspired by local flavors, with lovely ingredients from their orchards and the surrounding area, all at great prices. The two apartments also have their own kitchens, so you can cook for yourself. There are quaint villages and restaurants nearby, with plenty of chances for a culinary holiday. If you want to explore new paths and fully recharge at an affordable price, come to La Zapatera.

The place is peaceful, quiet, and very private. After a few minutes on the dirt track, which my low-clearance car handled easily, we reached Cortijo la Zapatera. We were pleasantly surprised by the facilities and decor, the big living room and bedroom, the different terraces, and the pool with its perfect water temperature. We ordered dinner from the owners, and it was wonderful.

It’s about half an hour from the coast, where there are all kinds of restaurants. The owners are incredibly hospitable and nothing seems like too much trouble. Breakfast was delicious and varied every morning, the pool was nice, and the apartment was beautiful. We didn’t see any of the other rooms. This is a lovely spot for peace, space, and relaxation. Babies are fine, but otherwise it’s less suited to children because there isn’t much for them to do at the Cortijo itself. Highly recommended for couples or anyone after some quiet.

A beautiful rustic base tucked among the hills and nature of Axarquia. It’s away from the beaten track, with nature, mountains, and the beach all close by.

The natural landscape is stunning, and it’s a beautiful B&B with friendly owners. Getting there is an adventure on its own, along a roughly 2.6 km unpaved road. Breakfast was superb and well prepared. The only small drawback was that there was nothing to eat in the evening.
