Protur Turó Pins Hotel

The pools were quiet and relaxing, just what we wanted, and the whole place felt like everything was working smoothly. I’m usually pretty critical, but this was the best hotel I’ve stayed in. The staff were lovely and helpful, the cleaning was excellent, and there was plenty to do, from the evening program to the kids’ playground and restaurant. I still wonder why it only has four stars. Our room was large and clean, and the bathroom was the biggest we’ve had so far. The sofa was old, but that didn’t bother me. Food tasted very good, with lots of choice at breakfast and plenty of vegetables, fruit, and desserts. Staff kept everything replenished, so nothing ran out. It’s a family resort with lots and lots of children, which we liked. A few small things could be improved: replace the old swing in the kids’ area, make the pool water colder, and label the country when there’s a themed meal, like Italian or Mexican, since we were just guessing. I’d also have liked breakfast and dinner to start and finish 30 minutes later. With people out during the day or managing kids, we felt a bit rushed. Thanks so much, five stars from me.

Dinner had a tasty selection, and the hotel is good value with plenty of space for children. The rooms and bathrooms are large and well kept, though quite dark, and there’s no kitchen. It’s arranged in separate blocks. There are two outdoor pools, plus an indoor pool with a jacuzzi, sauna, and a well-equipped gym with a view. The children’s playground could use some repairs. The location is central, about a 15-minute walk to either beach or the town centre. There’s construction next door, so it’s noisy during work hours, but otherwise the hotel is quiet. Reception staff were good. Some of the younger restaurant staff came across as arrogant and seemed unhappy at work. Breakfast was very poor, more like what I’d expect at a three-star hotel next door. They also tried to put on an evening program.

The food was a real highlight. We added half board when we arrived because €40 a day for dinner for all three of us was such a bargain. I worried we’d get bored, but there was lots of variety and everything was amazing. Mexican night was especially good. There was always some beige food for fussy eaters, plus plain pasta and a couple of sauces. Breakfast was just as good, and we loved the pancake station. We had a deluxe junior suite as a couple with a four-year-old, and it suited us perfectly. There was a fridge, microwave, and hob, with pots and pans in case we wanted to cook. We also had loads of storage, so we could put away our cases and hang up all our clothes. The terrace was a favourite, especially the hot tub my son used every evening. The pool was lovely and warm, and we could always find free sunbeds. The kids’ pool was a bonus, though very chilly. We also tried the indoor pool on a rainy afternoon, but the room smelled a bit musty and could do with an upgrade. Everyone we met was kind and helpful from the moment we arrived. We hired a car at Palma airport, and the drive across Mallorca took just over an hour. The village was around a 10-minute walk down the road, with good lunch spots and lots of shops. We took a boat trip from the harbour one day. The nearest beach is rocky, but Cala Aguilla is a large sandy beach with lovely blue water, about a 15-20 minute walk away. There’s also a beautiful little beach just around the headland from the port that you can walk to from the hotel. It’s a great base for exploring the north and east of the island, with lots of places a short drive away. We’d come back in a heartbeat.

The staff were so friendly and helped with all sorts of things. They got me glue for my sunglasses, lent us a big beach umbrella, arranged a baby bed, and were quick whenever we needed something in the room. There were smiles everywhere. I’m quite critical, but the hotel really worked for us. Dinner had a different theme each day of the week, and the cooks did a great job with many of the dishes. There were lots of options for putting together your own plate, too. I didn’t expect the food to be this good. The spa was great as well, and you can book a private session. Thanks! :)
