The mattress was the biggest problem for me. The air conditioner was extremely loud, or possibly broken, so I couldn't switch it on and the room was quite cold in winter. North-facing rooms are dark, with no ceiling light, just bedside lamps and a floor lamp in the corner, which wasn't enough when it was dark outside. The shower pressure was very high, and getting the temperature right was tricky. There was no fridge or minibar, only a tiny bottle of body soap. The hotel is right in central Cardona, with public parking across the street. I wouldn't recommend the hotel's own parking: it's small, expensive, and has an old door someone has to open and close for you. Email communication was good, and replies came relatively quickly. Reception staff were nice, except for one woman who seemed to answer any request negatively. Breakfast was supposed to start at 7:30 and was already set out at 7:15. She got annoyed when we had a coffee before going to work, which felt ridiculous. The management team emailed soon after asking us to go through reception and pay for it “asap.” On our last day, I tried to get breakfast at 9:30, but because I hadn't booked it the day before, I couldn't have any, even though it was supposedly served until 10:30. I wouldn't call it a bad hotel, but I wouldn't stay again. I'm sure there are better hotels in the area.

The location was a real plus, close enough to walk to the Cardona fortress, with a good restaurant nearby. The hotel has a charming interior, a beautiful elevator, and an inviting upstairs terrace. We didn't eat breakfast on the terrace, though, since it was served in the lobby. The breakfast was the most meager I've had at a hotel: toast you had to make yourself, some ham, cheese, and fruit. I don't eat gluten, and there was no gluten-free bread, so my options were limited. The cakes and croissants were stale and had clearly been sitting out for a long time. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The woman at reception switched effortlessly between languages and made sure we were comfortable. Our room had a pleasant view of the surrounding nature, and the bathroom was clean. The rooms are small, but very clean and nicely furnished. I especially liked the fresh, crisp, good-smelling bed linen, which made for a comfortable night's sleep. The hotel's small, cozy atmosphere was appealing. There were ants in the room, which was off-putting. They seemed to be everywhere, even crawling on us at night. There was no refrigerator, which made it hard to store food, and no toilet brush, which is a useful thing to have. We were also charged an extra 7 euros for parking despite having only a motorcycle. That was a first for us, since parking is usually included in the stay, so the unexpected fee was unwelcome. The hotel has some charm and kind staff, but the ants, missing amenities, and disappointing breakfast made the stay less enjoyable than it could have been.

Everything in the village is within easy walking distance from this beautiful hotel. I only wish we'd stayed more than one night.
