Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf & Spa

We felt at home from the moment we arrived for our four-night stay at the Grand Hyatt La Manga. We were offered a drink and checked in quickly and efficiently in the lounge. Our room was lovely, with a balcony looking out over the golf courses. We came to play three rounds, one each on the south, north and West courses. I’ll review the courses separately, but they were all beautiful. The staff were extremely friendly and happy to help with anything. This is a beautiful, truly five-star hotel. We ate at Luigi’s on the first night, a lovely Italian restaurant, then the Asian restaurant the next evening, where the food and atmosphere were wonderful. The third night was at the steak restaurant, with wonderful food and service. For our last dinner, we went back to Luigi’s and had what was probably the best lasagna ever.

I was looking forward to the spa after seeing its photos, so it was disappointing to find it closed for maintenance when I arrived. Carmen, the operations director, said the closure was unexpected, apologized, and covered my night’s stay and dinner. I wasn’t asked to pay. They handled it generously and professionally, and that turned around my initial disappointment. I’ll definitely return to enjoy the resort and spa another time. The hotel staff were very friendly, from reception through to the restaurants. It’s a luxurious golf resort near the ocean. I don’t play golf, but the course looked peaceful and pleasant. The breakfast buffet was among the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had in Europe. There was a broad choice of local and typical breakfast dishes, a relaxing panoramic view of the golf course, and amazingly friendly service. The Japanese sushi omakase bar was another gem among the hotel restaurants. If you like sushi, give it a try.

The receptionist was very friendly and gave us lots of useful tips. Still, I left a little disappointed for a hotel that’s meant to be five stars. There wasn’t a toilet brush in the room, which really bothered me, and I didn’t expect to have to pay for drinking water and coffee in the room. Even three-star hotels usually provide those for free.

The service, rooms and location were all brilliant, and it’s a great place to relax. My one complaint is the coffee in the room: each cup costs €5, with no information there to tell you. At every other Hyatt I’ve stayed in, the coffee was free to use and refilled daily.
