Rural Médulas

We felt at home from the moment we arrived, with the heating already on, and the valley location overlooking Lake Carucedo is hard to beat. A couple of small things could be better: the hot water kept fluctuating, so it was hard to get a comfortable, steady temperature, and some dishes hadn't been properly cleaned by the previous guests. Checking them between stays would sort that out. Even with those issues, we had an amazing stay.

Ricardo was rude and threatening when we raised the cleanliness problems. The house was filthy, including the fridge and toaster, one of the most disgusting places we've ever stayed. When he realized we weren't going to pay, he told us to leave. There was no cell service there, either, and although the website advertises Wi-Fi, we were told on arrival that there wasn't any. Mercedes, the owner, is kind and attentive, and the accommodation is luxurious. We stayed in House 3 with two adults and two children. It had everything we needed, and the large, comfortable beds made for a great night's sleep. The place was absolutely quiet, and we loved spending time on the terrace with its views of the reservoir and Las Médulas, with Cornatel Castle visible in the distance. Las Médulas is a beautiful area and still well worth visiting, even though part of it has burned down. It feels like a fairytale. They also need us, as they say. We'll be back.

We were absolutely delighted with the facilities, the service, and the hosts. The welcome was incredibly friendly and personal. It's a mountain house, so expect mountain roads and the rest that comes with that kind of setting. If you enjoy rural surroundings, it's highly recommended.
