Everything was fine.

We were there with a group of friends for the Jarramplas festivities, and La Grande made a great base. The house has five bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate toilet across three floors, plus a big kitchen with everything in it, a fireplace and sofas. It’s a traditional place that’s been beautifully restored, with all the comforts and a lot of equipment. The management was very helpful. They also have other houses in the village, with the same charm but different sizes. Great value, and I’d happily recommend it.

The service was excellent, and the location worked really well for exploring the Jerte, La Vera and Ambroz valleys. The country house is lovely, bright, very clean and nicely decorated. It’s also equipped with everything you need for a stay.

The setting was wonderful, and the lady looking after the house was so kind. It’s an authentic country home with lots of thoughtful details, and definitely worth a visit. We went in autumn, which was spectacular, and plan to come back in spring.

The poor cleaning and upkeep were hard to overlook. At first glance things look all right, but there are cobwebs all over the ceilings, including above the shower, and the little ground-floor cellar had so many that we left nothing there. On our last day, the mattress protectors were covered in hair when we stripped the beds. The supplied board games were missing pieces, too. The place costs a lot for what you get, even though the small house has some charm, and parking just means finding a spot somewhere in town. There are ants in the kitchen, right by the food you have to leave on the counter, so we spent time killing them each morning. There’s no pantry, washing machine or dishwasher. The refrigerator works, but it’s tiny, dirty and in awful shape inside: you can’t use the door storage, and its only shelf is half falling off. Bedroom doors don’t shut, so there’s no privacy. The bathroom door won’t close either, meaning you have to lock it, which feels risky while showering. Only the upstairs kitchen-living room has air conditioning. Downstairs, where the two bedrooms and bathroom are, there’s just a small portable fan that barely does the job. The living-room sofas sag, and the beds tilt a little, making it feel like you could slide off to one side. Watch out for the extra bed: it’s really a dirty folding mattress covered in hair. It might do for a short stay, but the price is excessive for the house and what it offers, and the cleaning feels pretty slapdash.
