Club Caleta Dorada

The restaurant food was good, with something for everyone, and the staff I met were really nice. There’s an Irish bar and a few other places just a few minutes from the supermarket, but I didn’t get out much apart from going there, so can’t really comment on the area. I’d only booked a short solo stay, Saturday to Wednesday. The hotel was clean, but the rooms are dated and need some refurbishing. I didn’t find the door locks as secure as I’d like, especially travelling alone. My room had two doors, and one was basically just a latch. The cockroaches were the reason I cut the trip short. I saw maybe two on the first night, then far more the next night, coming from behind the built-in wardrobe and the AC unit, crawling up the walls, with a few possibly in the lounge too. I went to reception at midnight. They had no other rooms and gave me spray to deal with it myself. It was a very long night, and I could hear them behind the wardrobe. I was so horrified I booked a flight home the next day, Monday. I never saw any outside in the grounds, but there were plenty in my room. I personally wouldn’t return because I don’t want to deal with that, though I can see why people like the hotel otherwise.

There was no hairdryer in the room, which I think a three-star hotel should provide. The food was what you’d expect at that level, but good enough, and there wasn’t anything I didn’t enjoy. The grounds were well kept, staff friendly enough, and the rooms modern and clean. It’s quiet enough to get some peace while still being handy for shops, restaurants and bars.

We were happy with the bungalow, especially the little fridge, which came in handy. The beds weren’t the most comfortable, and the sofa bed was softer on our backs, but otherwise the room suited us well. Everyone on staff was polite and friendly, and we found something we liked from the good variety of fresh food each day. It’s in a lovely area, with local bars and restaurants nearby, and the beach is about a 10-15 minute walk. We had such a nice stay and will definitely come back.

The pool was just about bearable in mid-December, but it was very clean. The rooms were clean too, and the staff were always smiling and happy to help. Food was more than excellent, really fresh, with a good selection that changed daily. We had forest salmon, king prawns, muscles and roast chicken. Thanks to everyone who made our week away special. Can’t fault it.
