Pensión La Mar

The location and cleanliness deserve the two stars, but the sound carries terribly. From our room, we could clearly hear reception conversations one floor below, doors opening and closing, the elevator, and people having "fun" at night. The bathroom was tiny, and taking a shower flooded about half of it.

Although the room wasn’t very big, it was warm and clean. The hotel’s decor felt fresh, bright and clean throughout, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’d recommend staying here while visiting the area.

After three nights of barely sleeping in albergues on the Camino, getting twelve hours in my own little corner of heaven here was wonderful. The very kind landlady gave me the last room in Castro, and this lovely little hostel is right beside everything in town. The Camino del Norte in August was busy, and it doesn’t have the infrastructure of the Frances, so there can be bottlenecks and not enough beds. Castro is one of those places. Book ahead if you can and get some sleep. The landlady later told me she was turning away Pelegrinos every five minutes.

I showed up without a reservation and was glad to get a room. The staff were friendly, and the room was clean. It’s a decent place to stay on the Camino.
