Hotel Palacio La Casona de Cerrazo

We ended up finding this lovely hotel while visiting Cartes to see the Christmas lights. It has beautiful views and feels cosy, with thoughtful details throughout. The service was top notch. Such a great find, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. Thank you, María!

Breakfast was a real highlight, especially the homemade jam, which made it feel personal. There was plenty to choose from: bread, croissants, cheese, ham, juice, yoghurt, cereal, fresh fruit and cakes. We even enjoyed using the high-tech toaster. Our hosts, Miguel and Maria, were lively, interesting, helpful and full of energy, and we especially enjoyed chatting with them. The room was spacious and charming, with a very comfortable bed and a practical, attractive bathroom with a good shower. We also loved the light, airy conservatory for breakfast and the large garden with lemon and orange trees. From the room, we had beautiful views of the mountains to the south. We’ve stayed in some lovely places on this trip through this part of Spain, but this hotel was the best. It’s a really special place.

We came across this place by chance while planning our road trip as we went along, and it was easily the best stay of our vacation. The breakfasts are worth the extra cost, especially for the homemade jams. We loved the cosy feel and all the details at Casona. The building has been renovated beautifully, and the tasteful colonial-style furniture makes it feel elegant but still comfortable. We’d definitely come back.

Maria and Miguel are wonderful hosts. It’s a perfect base for enjoying Cantabria and the surrounding area, and we’ll be back soon.
