Molino de Santillán

I had a horrifying experience at Santillán during a yoga retreat a couple of weeks ago. I’d specifically asked for a female massage therapist, but was given a male therapist. He smelled strongly of cigarettes, used a pool towel as a sheet, and touched me inappropriately. I sent the retreat center a detailed, explicit report and still hadn’t heard back after two business days. I’m shocked by what feels like gross negligence. Definitely beware.

We had a lovely yoga retreat at New Year. The setting is so peaceful, among olive groves with views of the Mediterranean. The grounds are beautiful, with orange and lemon trees, great yoga facilities, and a lively pool.

I left feeling nourished inside and out. The food was delicious, fresh, full of flavour, and nutritious, and I loved relaxing by the pool on the deckchairs. My room was light and spacious, with a lovely balcony overlooking the gardens. The yoga teaching was top quality, with sessions in a beautiful purpose-built indoor space with a rope wall and excellent props, as well as an outdoor shala in peaceful, stunning surroundings. This retreat was exactly what I was looking for and ticked all the boxes. I’d highly recommend it if you want a quiet, restorative break and a chance to reset.

The food they served every day was incredible, some of the best I’ve ever eaten. It was fresh and flavourful, and there was always a yummy dessert to finish the meal. Tana, the owner, is so welcoming and kind, and the hotel has a beautiful Spanish charm with lots of little details. The drive up the mountain already felt peaceful. From the yoga room you can see a beautiful mountain and valley, all the way to the sea. There’s also a very sweet, friendly cat called panda who brightens your day. I highly recommend this yoga studio.
