Hostal Plaza

At Hostal Plaza, the room felt a bit cramped, and the windows and shower screen weren't very clean. The elevator also broke down a couple of times. Improving those things would make for a more comfortable stay.

The place is in such bad shape that its central location doesn't make the price worthwhile. I paid €30 through Booking.com, which they agreed to, though they ask for €39. The facilities are very old, the lift feels frightening to use, and the street-facing windows let in a lot of noise from the square. Cars keep racing past, so sleep is difficult. At Christmas, a carol speaker sits by the same window until 9 or 10 pm, which is unbearable. The room itself wasn't cold, but there was no heater for showers in January in Salamanca, when it was 2 degrees or less. The man serving at the bar is extremely rude. They call it clean, but just look at the shower-screen rails. I hope I didn't catch anything. I won't be back. There are places a thousand times better for that price.

The service was fantastic, and the heating worked really well. Reception is at the bar on the square, where they also give you a discount on drinks. They provide little soap and shampoo sachets. The room did smell a bit of tobacco when we arrived, but opening the window cleared it after a few hours, so that's why I'm taking off a star.

We could hear everything from the town square through the wooden windows, so it was noisy. But the worst part of our one-night stay was the sewage smell in the room. Even with the bathroom door shut, it still came into the room. They really should fix that.
