It's outside the town walls, but Ciudad Rodrigo's beauty is only 300m away. This isn't the Ritz or a corporate NH hotel with plastic ferns and designer bathroom gels. It's the little hotel that could. And before you leave, don't forget to buy some of those “embutidos”. The everyday food here would count as gourmet in most places in the world. For full transparency, I've stayed here so many times they know me by name and always put me in the same room. We work in film, often on productions nearby in “Rodriwood” with Stellarum Films. The staff are kind and professional. Breakfast is simple, with fabulous local salchichón and chorizo, and the coffee is fresh and unlimited.

It's a quiet little hotel a bit out of the way, but the castle is only a short walk. The parking underneath only works for a small car with no overhangs! There's also parking by the market, about a 3-minute walk away.

It's clean and the staff are friendly, but for me that's about all it has going for it. The beds are uncomfortable, and there's nowhere to put your things except on the floor. There is a small desk, but I was working while traveling with family, and my laptop and other work stuff took up that space. Our room was very hot, so we ran the AC at night, then staff turned it off early in the morning. Not cool.

We got into Ciudad Rodrigo late on Sunday, and they still gave us a lovely room and helped us park. The hotel is in the lower part of town, easy to reach from the freeway, with lots of restaurants and shops nearby. The room was spacious and spotless, with strong Wi-Fi and a TV with all the channels. Highly recommended.

We ate at the restaurant and found the food very good value. The room was comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is well situated with an underground garage. I'd recommend it to anyone.
