Coma-Ruga Platja

We spent one night in room 203 before our flight from Barcelona. I knew this was an economy hotel, but I still expected reliable three-star standards. It fell so far short that I’d give it no more than one star. The room was badly outdated and clearly needed renovation. Dead mosquitoes were on the walls, and the furniture looked at least 30-40 years old. There was a persistent bad smell, and the old air conditioning unit was noisy enough to make it hard to relax. Mold residue in the bathroom added to the unpleasantness. The mattress and pillows were disgusting, and we barely slept. I asked to change rooms as soon as I saw it, but was told none were available, even though we’d booked 30 days ahead. The pictures on the hotel website were severely misleading. The actual room was completely different from what they advertised. When I raised all this with reception, I got a half-hearted “sorry” and no offer of compensation. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever encountered. I’d urge anyone considering it to stay elsewhere. It isn’t worth any price.

The room wasn’t clean, and there was no duvet, so we were freezing. We had to keep our shoes on indoors or our feet got filthy. The bathroom had mold and a shower that sprayed water all over the floor. It obviously wasn’t cleaned regularly. The pool was freezing, and staff were no help when we asked how to find it. The rooms smelled like sewage, worse every morning. The walls were paper thin, so every conversation came through, along with loud scraping noises at 6am. Rude guests stayed there, and children made moaning sounds at us on two days in a row. Absolutely awful.

It was all just okay, really. The room was decent until a foul smell started coming from the bathroom on day two. Around 90% of the others on our school trip noticed it too. There was mold in the bathroom, and in some areas it was obvious someone had painted over it. Reception staff were friendly enough, but one young waiter was rude, giving the English guests looks and talking about them. The food was mostly rubbery and odd, so for the whole week I stuck to bread and gherkins. I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you’re planning to eat there.

Eleven family members stayed here for my wedding weekend, and they all came away with the same impression: the staff were very unprofessional, cold, and never smiled. The only advantage was being close to the beach. The place badly needs renovation and staff who understand hospitality. Worst three-star hotel they’ve stayed in. 1/10.
