Casa Da Chousa

We were moved to La Chousa, behind Casa Mariñeira, even though we had booked Casa Mariñeira across the street. At 8 pm, the owner said earlier guests had broken the shower tray and offered us a discount to stay in the other house. It was bigger, older and poorly kept, with no view of the granaries. When we went out for dinner, we saw lights in Casa Mariñeira’s windows. Other people were staying there, so we believe the same place had been rented to several guests and we were relocated under false pretenses. We tried calling the owner without success, then found him at the ice cream shop below La Chousa. He kept insisting the shower tray was broken. When we said we’d seen lights and the windows opening and closing, he admitted he had rented the place to more than one group. From what we saw, this may not have been the first time. The idea of staying in a traditional fisherman’s house was misleading, and we wouldn’t trust this accommodation. The house we were given had flies and a musty smell; the towels were snagged and stained, and the shower head was in terrible condition. There were dirt streaks on the bathroom walls and doors, no silicone sealant around the toilet where it met the floor, and the extractor duct was cut off and blocked instead of venting outside. The sheets were stained too, the floor was in bad shape, the walls were damp, and the soap was watery. If Casa Mariñeira has already been rented to someone else for your dates, you may be given another house instead. We left feeling badly let down by an unreliable owner.
