Casa Rural Monte Higueras

The natural surroundings were unbeatable, and the owners made us feel exceptionally welcome. We had such a great time at Monte Higueras over the weekend. The house is beautiful, and we can't wait to come back soon.

This country house felt like an oasis of calm. We had an extraordinary weekend and will definitely come back.

Such a disappointment, especially for the price. The house sits among vineyards, but the access road is awful and left the underside of our car in terrible shape, a real hazard. At the house, the fridge didn't work, the pool was full of hornets and the water was greener than a swamp. The parasol meant to cover the barbecue was missing, too. The shower trays drained badly, and water leaked from behind the showerhead. A weekend without a usable pool, barbecue, or fridge just isn't feasible.

We booked the house for a weekend, hoping to enjoy the place and cool off in the pool, but that didn't happen. Three days before we arrived, just after we paid, the owner messaged that there were lots of wasps around the pool in the heat. She said they were fumigating and wanted us to know in case anyone was allergic. In reality, the pool was swarming with wasps, making swimming impossible, and it hadn't been maintained. The video showed greenish water with no visible bottom, nothing like the clear blue water in the website ads. We called on Friday, and the owner said it should be fine the next day because they'd added cleaning products. Nothing changed. On a second call, she said she didn't know what had happened and offered to refund that night if we wanted to leave. But we'd planned our weekend and weren't going home. We'd have canceled and found somewhere else if we'd been told earlier. We weren't planning to spend a summer weekend in the middle of nowhere unable to swim. It's unacceptable that they waited until we arrived to tell us about the wasps, and that we also couldn't have used the pool even without them because it wasn't properly maintained. Afterward, I told the owner it was fair to charge us for using the house, but she should refund some money because the pool was unavailable and she'd concealed the wasp problem until after payment. They refused, saying the house costs the same with or without the pool, which makes no sense. The fridge was another issue. We arrived Friday afternoon, put in our groceries, and realized around 9:00 PM it wasn't cooling at all. We had to call and move our food to a fridge in the adjacent house, which was closed, so it wouldn't spoil. We'd asked them to turn that fridge on beforehand so it'd be ready when we arrived. Our fridge didn't work properly again until midday the next day. The pool situation was a disappointment, and the owner was unprofessional to offer a pool service knowing it wasn't available. She also didn't acknowledge the mistake or refund part of the cost. We've now filed a complaint through VRBO.
