The service is great, and the hotel has a lovely sense of tradition. Tucked away in the Galician countryside, it’s a real hidden gem. It’s quite remote, so it may not suit everyone, but if you’re after peace and beautiful scenery, you’ll love it.

The hosts were so friendly, and everything was spotlessly clean. We loved the peaceful setting and the breakfast was just what we wanted. This beautifully restored country house was the nicest place we stayed during our recent driving holiday through Spain and Portugal. Lugar Del Rio is definitely somewhere we’d love to return to. Thanks again to everyone there.

We slept wonderfully, with birdsong as our only wake-up call. The mattresses were orthopedic, and the large, modernized rooms still suit the old Spanish farmhouse style. Breakfast was a treat, with tasty homemade ingredients. The restored farmhouse is a stunning place to relax and explore the beautiful coastline. A real gem, and we recommend it 120%. If you’re staying nearby, you have to stay here!

The standout for me was breakfast, served in its own dining area. There was toast with tomato or jam, fruit, yogurt, homemade cakes, coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, cold cuts, and cheese, with a little change each morning. The breakfast was delicious and generous, and the house also has a big garden, plenty of outdoor seating, parking, a guest kitchen, and spacious shared areas on the first floor. It’s a country house with bed and breakfast, and the rooms are large, very clean, and have comfortable beds. Some have desks. Auri and Santi are incredible hosts, always around if you need anything and making you feel at home. It’s an easy place to switch off and enjoy nature. We came planning to work remotely, and the internet handled video calls and screen sharing well, which was great given how remote it is. We stayed six nights and weren’t bothered by the occasional footsteps or sounds from neighboring rooms through the wooden floors. That’s common in country houses and expected. You can also hear the church bell several times a day. A couple with a baby was staying there too. We also saw a couple with a tiny dog. The property is pet-friendly, though they were in a separate lot rather than the main house. To set expectations, the last 5 km to the house from the coast are on a narrow road. Coastal towns with restaurants and supermarkets are about a 20-minute drive away. It felt like staying in a perfectly maintained country home with premium service, and we didn’t want to leave.

Santi, the owner, was one of the warmest, most genuine people I’ve met. He put real effort into helping each guest find activities that suited them. The beds are very comfortable, and the house is gorgeous, full of beautiful antiques, fresh flowers, and a great collection of books. Breakfast was lavish and excellent quality, with local cheeses and homemade cakes and jam. Lugar del Rio sits in a lush valley, well placed for beaches, cliffs, mountains, and estuaries across northern Galicia. It’s close to Ortiguiera and not far from Cedeira and Viveiro. We loved our stay and will be back again and again.
