During a long-distance bike race across Spain, I stayed one night at Hostal Cortes. I got a warm welcome, a heated room where I could sleep well, and dry clothes in the morning. Even though I left very early, I was able to get a coffee.

We especially appreciated the receptionist from Colombia. She was friendly, helpful, and explained Cuenca and its sights better than the tourist office did. The hotel itself was quiet and clean, right by the bus station and an easy walk from the attractions.

For €36 on a Friday night, I was very happy with my basic but clean and adequate single room. The hostal is dated, but the staff were cheerful and polite. It’s well placed for the old town, with bars and restaurants nearby.

A quiet, affordable place to sleep. My single room cost 34 euros and had two beds. It was a little cold at night, but the hostel was good overall, and the staff were friendly.

The rooms can get noisy when other guests are walking around, which was the main drawback for me. Otherwise, Hostal Cortés was clean and comfortable, with amazingly helpful staff. It’s easy to reach from the train station and just a short walk to Cuenca’s old city.
