Posada de San José

I loved staying here for three nights. Room 13 had a stunning view, and the complimentary upgrade to a twin room was much appreciated. The room was clean and very comfortable, and both the front desk and housekeeping staff were kind. I chose this place because the restaurant's food and service had been so good on my visit last year. Dinner this time didn't live up to those expectations. The meal didn't seem as good as last year's, and I left the bread unfinished. At the start, the waitress couldn't find my reservation, and I had to work out that she was asking for my room number. Saying “thirteen” didn't get through, so I showed her my key and she understood. When she asked about dessert, I said, “No, thanks.” She responded in a high-pitched “NO!?” which felt rude and unprofessional. She didn't smile at all during the meal. I understand she doesn't speak English, but a smile is universal, and I kept smiling while trying to understand her even though I don't speak Spanish. I had planned to eat here throughout my stay, but after that experience I don't want to return. I did find another hotel restaurant that was fantastic, though, and asked its waitress to reserve a table for me the next day. She didn't speak English either, but kept smiling and doing her best to understand.
