Hotel Astigi

It's easy to reach from the A4 when coming from Seville, and breakfast is good value. The place gets a lot of passing traffic, though it's old, run-down, and a bit dirty. Most of the staff were friendly, but the afternoon waiter was unpleasant, seemed in a rush to leave, and clearly wasn't interested in the job. The dishes were dirty, the coffee was awful, and in this heat the pastries seem like they could make someone ill. I'd only recommend it for breakfast, and I wouldn't come back.

The room and bathroom were dirty, there was rubbish in the bin, and we weren't given any towels. At midnight it was 27°C, yet the air conditioning remote didn't work and they didn't even provide a fan. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. We'll never return.

The food was good, and our waiter was very attentive. The rooms were another story. At 43°C (109°F), we were given a key and an air conditioning remote, but the room had no split unit and the central air wasn't working, so the remote was useless. We complained and were told a clean room would be ready in half an hour. They called after fifteen minutes with a new key. That room had air conditioning, but it also had a cigarette butt in the bathroom, so it wasn't especially clean. We were there for a wedding, and later guests had to make do without air conditioning too. Only half the rooms had it. The afternoon noise also made it impossible to rest.

The beef was tender and full of flavor, the cured meats were excellent, and there was a good wine selection. The dining room has a classic look but feels cozy and quiet. I'd gladly return.
