Hotel Bruc

The restaurant staff were excellent, and the menu and tapas were good value. The room was small and dark, with no balcony even though we’d booked one, and the shower left a lot to be desired. There was also a lot of noise from a wedding going on.

The location has potential, and perhaps the hotel was grand in its early days, but it would need money and pride of ownership to live up to that. As it was, this was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. If you need a restful night, you may want to look further down the road. Check-in went fairly smoothly, and the receptionist was able to give us a room with a view of Montserrat mountain when I asked. But the dark hallways felt creepy, and the room decor felt like a bordello. There was a stale cigarette smell, no kettle, and just two bottles of water. When my son pulled back the covers, we both saw a large booger with nose hair still attached stuck to the sheets. I called reception, and she asked us to return to the lobby for keys to another room. It was right next door, farther down that same long, unsettling hallway. At 2:00 a.m., men shouting and banging on doors jolted us awake. The man at the reception desk did come over promptly and deal with the problem. After a restless night, we got dressed and left as quickly as we could, without even brushing our teeth. The dead leaves scattered over the lobby floor when we arrived should have been a clue. I’d suggest the place as a set for a psychological thriller or horror film.

A hidden gem, with a beautifully designed hotel. The rooms had what we needed, including a comfortable bed and a small but great shower. They served a nice breakfast too.

The staff were absolutely awesome. We’d left Montserrat as the skies closed in, and although they were fully booked for the night, they made us a room while we waited an hour at the bar. The rooms were due for renovation, but ours was comfortable and clean. Exceptional service.
