The hospitalero is a really nice guy, and this place is fine for a night on the Camino. I had a good dinner, though the price felt about average for what we got. There’s a bar and restaurant nearby too. One thing to know: I wasn’t put up in the albergue itself, but in a double room in a separate flat about 200m away. It had at least three double rooms and one bathroom with a toilet and shower, but the bathroom door didn’t lock. If you want dinner or breakfast at the albergue, you may have a bit of a walk there in the evening or back in the morning.
The garden was nice, with an outdoor sink and lots of washing lines. We’d booked a double room with a shared bathroom and were surprised to find that the one bathroom served eight people, but it was all OK. There was a home-cooked communal dinner for about 12€? Breakfast was included too.
I didn’t get to talk much with the owner because of my own language limitations, but I liked him. He came across as a very thoughtful, hardworking man who took pride in the place. Everything was so tidy, it honestly felt almost like being at home.
There are shared rooms as well as twin and double options, all with a shared bathroom, and the place is kept clean and tidy. The hosts were very friendly and made us a tasty homemade dinner. Dinner and breakfast cost 17 euros. Breakfast had baguettes, madeleine cakes, jam, butter, plenty of coffee and a carton of juice, plus a DIY toaster and a microwave for warming coffee. It set us up for the day. There may be a bar or two in the village serving food, though perhaps not at every time or every day. This is a great albergue, now the only one in Cubo. There’s also a regular bus from the plaza mayor to Zamora and Salamanca, and back.
The heating could have been better, but they gave us lots of blankets. The hospitalero cooked dinner and had breakfast ready too. A great albergue.
