The building has real historic interest and has been turned into a quirky hotel, though its layout, with little steps all over, isn't ideal. The family suite was huge, with a lounge, dining room and kitchen, a double bedroom, another room with three single beds, and a bathroom. The bathroom had a cramped prefab power-shower cubicle with an overhead head, a handheld one, and six side massage jets. There's a lovely inner courtyard with a small, fairly deep pool that works fine, just not for swimming lengths. Staff were friendly, and outside food is allowed. There's also a bar, breakfast and a restaurant on site. Breakfast costs €5 per person, though nearby places have cheaper options. The hotel is well located but expensive for what you get. Parking costs an extra €7.50 per night, and getting in is very difficult because the access is narrow and steep. Staff know this and show you the way before you decide and sign up. The many scrapes on the walls tell you how often cars have been damaged. I scraped the hire car a little on my first attempt, nothing serious, but I was glad it had full cover insurance.

It's a lovely old building with lots of historic features, but the apartment itself was basic and nothing special. The WiFi was poor, so streaming didn't work. There was no kettle, and the shower flooded. There were just enough utensils to get by.

The apartments are quiet and central, with a great pool, and they're clean, comfortable and functional. They could use a few more basics in the apartment, like sugar, salt and washing machine powder.

Just a heads-up for guests: getting to the apartment means climbing steep marble stairs, which could be difficult for some people.
