Del Mar Hotel & Spa

We were visiting friends and wanted to try a spa. Of all the places we called, this was the only one that answered and was open on Sunday. The receptionist was nice, and the hotel had a cozy feel. The spa was clean and pleasant. The essential-oil shower seemed to have run out of oils, so it was just a regular shower. There wasn’t a hair dryer in the changing rooms, but they found me one quickly. They also offered us water or juice. The bathrobes were a big plus for me, since so many places now expect you to bring your own towel. Couldn’t ask for more.

The staff and spa deserve five stars, and I liked having a balcony. The bathrooms are nice, the rooms have Wi-Fi in both the rooms and public areas, and each one has a mini fridge. But the rooms feel dated, and the beds are far too small and uncomfortable. The hard mattress had springs I could feel, and I nearly fell out while asleep. A queen size or king size bed would make such an easy difference. The garage costs €7 a day, but it’s so tight that it’s a nightmare with a large car. I preferred parking in front of the hotel.

The rooms were clean and had a modern look, and the breakfast was generous, more than I expected. Staff were friendly, helpful, and courteous, and nothing seemed too much trouble. A pleasant hotel with lovely fittings and a luxurious feel from all the marble. Recommended.

The spa is a really good place to unwind, with an indoor pool, hydromassage, sauna, and Turkish bath. The price seemed fair, and the staff were really nice. The building needs renovating. I suppose COVID may mean that can’t happen right away. The rooms are spacious and clean, but very old.
