We paid in full and were relieved to leave. We didn't stay for breakfast, either, and went straight to another hotel, which was lovely and professional. This place had a strange feel from the start: an odd smell, a tiny 'pool', and hardly any other guests. The decor had a certain charm, though it felt like a post-colonial pastiche. Things were all right until I made a mild complaint that the air con and electricity weren't working. The owner's response was shockingly rude, aggressive and completely unprofessional. The whole experience was bizarre, like a Spanish Basil Fawlty with the humour replaced by aggression. We should perhaps have paid attention when the hotel called soon after booking to say breakfast had to be at 9 sharp. The good reviews made us decide to stay despite the warning signs. Please don't be misled by them. This place is bad news, you've been warned!

The hotel is stunning and in a great location, and the value for money is hard to beat. We had an amazing stay and will definitely be back.

The only thing we missed was breakfast. There was coffee, tea and pastries for a fee, along with cold drinks. The staff were very friendly, and we had two wonderful days in this peaceful spot in the city centre. It's an 19th-century house with just eight rooms and several courtyards full of geraniums and roses. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, the bathroom was perfect, and there's a small pool.
