The approach street is currently under construction, so you’ll need to drive around to find parking. Inside, the rooms are noisy enough that you can hear other people flush their toilets. There’s a downstairs bar you enter through, and its music thumps all day.

We came with a group of 12 and a tight schedule because we had an appointment at a nearby vineyard. Even with lots of guests, lunch arrived on time. The food was pretty good, and the service was wonderful, all delivered with a smile.

The winery tour was interesting and informative, covering mass production methods, wine marketing, and some history. Tours last 60-90 minutes. Visitors enter through a side building and are then taken through other buildings on the property. Unfortunately, tourists aren’t allowed closer to Gehry’s heavily guarded building. There’s a fancy winery shop selling both expensive and cheaper wines, plus a snack bar and restroom. This town in Spain’s Basque country sits in the world famous Rioja wine region. Hotel Marqués de Riscal, opened in 2006, is at the winery and is a striking building by renowned architect Frank Gehry, who also designed the Bilbao Guggenheim museum.
